![]() Given the great numbers of Monarchs (up to 100 million) that gather to migrate each fall, it is hard to imagine them facing any threat of extinction. In reality, however, Monarchs and their amazing annual migration are seriously threatened by human activities, in both their summer and overwintering sites. Many of these threatening activities hinge on the destruction of good Monarch habitats.
-MONARCH WATCH UPDATE August, 2016. It seems like the Monarch season is slow, but they ARE coming. In the past few weeks I have spotted more than I have seen all summer. 3 Butterflies currently in chrysalis. I started 3 Butterfly gardens this season, including the potted garden on my window sill. I learned that Monarchs on their migration, make a stop in Escanaba Michigan while on the journey. There will probably be a camping trip early September. Expect to see some great Monarch pics coming! Keep planting Milkweed and Nectar Flowers! Even urban gardening will help! A female Monarch, visited the window garden today, stayed for 20 minutes, and left many eggs on the plants. (see her in above photo) Here is some great Monarch viewing and a fantastic book called "Four Wings and a Prayer"
